Rev. Carrie MaKenna

Celebrating 15 Memory-filled Years
Independent Non-denominational Ceremony Officiant

LGBT Couples - I celebrate Same-sex Legal Marriage!

Same-sex Marriages are now honored NATIONWIDE -
As I've been doing for more than 15 years!

I'm not just jumping on the band-wagon now. I've been performing LGBTQ+ wedding ceremonies for the past 15 years since I started out. I'm so thrilled about the passage of Legal Marriage. And I'm so excited about the full nationwide recognition of marriage equality. I've always been pro-LGBT, but it's also personal because my brother was with his partner for 25 years. And if that isn't a marriage, I don't know what is.

I'm and independent, non-denominational wedding officiant. I offer Spiritual, but not religious ceremonies. Please take a look at this page and the rest of this site to see I've got what you're looking for.

I treat all couples the same - with respect, warmth and care.

I want to help you create and have a wedding ceremony that you'll cherish throughout your life together. You'll find everything you need to know about my services on the pages of this site.

Please call me to set up a free introductory meeting. It'll take about an hour. We'll get to know each other a bit and go through my portfolio of ceremonies readings and blessings to find out if I've got what you're looking for.

The Legal Stuff - How to Get and Use a Marriage License and Certificate
To get and use a Marriage License and Certificate is exactly the same as for heterosexual couples.
What is covered under it is now also the same (yipee)! Click on Marriage License Info for more details.

There is NO LONGER ANY DIFFERENCE between same-sex and any other Marriage NATIONWIDE!!!

  • Your Legal Marriage is now valid EVERYWHERE in the US (it may be recognized in other countries that have LGBT Civil Unions and/or Marriage Equality). Please seek legal counsel and check with the country you're interested in for details about these provisions.

  • With a Legal Marriage you now have all the rights and responsibilities
that married people have including hospital visits, transfer of property and
survivor benefits including Federal jurisdiction and Social Security. Because this
is new you may still want to keep legal agreements and documents you already have in place.

  • If you got a Civil Union in Colorado previously and want to get legally married here is some information for you from the Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder office. As always check with your county clerk and seek legal advice.
Q: Is my civil union transferrable to a marriage license?

A: No. A marriage license is a separate process and individuals must apply for a marriage application.

Q: Should my civil union be dissolved before applying for a marriage license or vice-versa?

A: It is not currently a legal requirement for a specific couple to dissolve a civil union or marriage prior to applying for a marriage license. Couples should seek legal advice regarding any contractual or financial implications for individuals that may be concurrently married and civil unionized.

This is an historic time. I'm so happy to celebrate it with you!

Whether you choose to get Legally Married or simply want to have a commitment ceremony I'd love to be of service to help you celebrate your relationship with a unique and special ceremony designed to honor your interests, values and beliefs.

Please look around this site for more information about what I have to offer. And when you're ready let's set up an appointment to meet and see if I've got what you're looking for.

Congratulations!!!

What couples have to say about Rev. Carrie

Thank you so much for being a part of our big day, it means the world to us that we were able to find someone who not only supports our union but also someone who gave us just what we asked for!

Gladys and Soledad - 2014,

Evergreen Lake House, Evergreen CO

Dear Gladys and Soledad - I'm so glad you found me too! And it was my pleasure to help you create the ceremony you wanted and support your union. The setting on the deck overlooking Evergreen Lake matched your beauty!

Carrie was everything we had wished for.

It certainly was not easy finding someone to perform a same sex wedding for us, but not only did she do it - she made the whole thing unforgettable. She could tell that I was nervous and emotional, but pressed on with her hands on my shoulder. The service was amazing and she incorporated things we wanted into her service (Our wedding was Disney themed so she took the time to find amazing quotes from Disney movies and put them in). I highly recommend her to anybody interested in getting married!

Michael and Matthew - 2013, Chateau at Fox Meadows, Denver CO

Dear Matthew and Michael - I'm so glad you found me too! I've been doing same-sex ceremonies since I started in 2003. I loved helping you realize your dream wedding with Disney love quotes, a Unity Candle and a Ripples Intersecting ceremony that included all your guests.
"For only meeting Carrie one time prior to the ceremony for about 45 minutes, she made us feel like we had known her all of our lives. She is a highlight of our wonderful day."

About the Couples' Choice Awards

The WeddingWire Couples' Choice Awards® recognizes the top 5 percent of local Wedding Professionals from the WeddingWire Network throughout the United States, Canada and abroad that demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness and professionalism.

Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the organization, the WeddingWire Couples' Choice Awards® are awarded solely based on the reviews from over 200,000 newlyweds.

Awards are determined by a combination of excellence in four factors: overall rating (quality), total number of reviews (quantity), review performance from 2014 (recency), and consistency of reviews from year to year (consistency).
